Working as water, hygiene and sanitation manager in the field
As a water, hygiene and sanitation (WATSAN) expert, you design and manage water supply and sanitation projects, in support of the medical activities.
Responsibilities
- Within the logistics team and as part of the project's medical strategy, design, implement and manage WATSAN activities such as water supply, excreta disposal, waste management, hygiene and support for medical facilities
- Participate in health monitoring with the operational and medical team by analysing existing data and conducting assessments in order to identify specific WATSAN needs and make recommendations for response activities as well as for strategies and resources
- Collaborate with the Supply team in monitoring, deployment, validation and purchasing, as well as other aspects related to WATSAN materials and equipment (proper purchasing, ensuring availability, appropriate technical specifications for equipment)
- Provide technical support to the medical team in identifying possible risk factors (e.g. behavioural practices, environmental sources of infection and transmission routes) and offer solutions for better hospital management
- Manage, train and supervise the WATSAN team through activities such as capacity-building (national or local training), briefing/debriefing, evaluation of staff and participatory management
- Develop and propose budgets for WATSAN activities and participate in budget monitoring
Requirements
- At least two years’ professional experience in water and sanitation (e.g. water, hygiene, waste management, sanitation, vector control)
- IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Fluency in English and/or French - fluency in both languages is an asset
- Available for a minimum of six months

- Relevant diploma or technical certificate (e.g. engineering, public heath, Swiss federal vocational diploma (CFC), BTS in France, Bioforce diploma or equivalent)
- International professional experience and/or experience in contexts similar to our areas of intervention
- Proficiency in other languages (Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili, etc.)
- Experience in a medical or paramedical setting
- People management experience
