Working as medical doctor in the field
Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to populations in need, while ensuring respect for humanitarian values and quality of care, in order to contribute to the long-term improvement of their health.
You will be involved in the medical response to epidemics such as cholera or measles, providing assistance to victims of armed conflict, and caring for vulnerable populations—both children and adults—who are displaced, living in precarious conditions, or suffering from exclusion.
Currently, there is limited demand for this position in the field. Therefore, candidates who meet the essential requirements and have certain assets are more likely to be contacted.
Responsibilities
- Inform patients and/or their relatives about the nature of the illness, explain the treatment to be followed when required, and ensure that the information provided has been properly understood.
- Ensure compliance with medical confidentiality, in accordance with the ethical principles of the Hippocratic Oath.
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnosis and prevention. Provide outpatient and inpatient consultations and prescribe the necessary treatment in accordance with MSF protocols.
- Inform the line manager or field medical manager of any complications related to the patient's illness and/or any medical errors.
- Contribute to the organisation of the medical team's work in accordance with MSF's HR policies, intervening directly in emergencies and on call if necessary.
- The doctor works with other health professionals, HR and logistics teams to ensure respectful reception and safety conditions for patients and their companions, particularly with regard to the prevention of abuse.
Requirements
- Up-to-date registration with the Medical Council
- Versatile experience as a doctor in one or more fields such as general/internal medicine, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, acute conditions related to chronic diseases, minor surgery and/or paediatrics
- At least three years' experience as a doctor
- Recent clinical experience of at least six months within the last two years
- Availability for a minimum of six months
- Fluent English and/or French

Assets
- Degree in tropical medicine
- Experience in the field of epidemic response, chronic diseases, palliative care or environmental health
- Specialisation in internal medicine, infectious diseases
- Professional experience in contexts similar to our areas of intervention
- Fluent English and French, and another language (Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, etc.)
