Recruitment activities for expatriation positions within MSF are conducted by: 

  • The Geneva (Switzerland) office for all applications from Switzerland, but also from countries not covered by other MSF sections 
  • The Dakar (Senegal) or Abidjan (Ivory Coast) office for all applications from the ECOWAS zone

When you work for MSF: 

  • You are volunteering to help people in danger on the ground, by using all your skills in the context of emergency care (natural disasters, population displacement), chronic conflict, or as part of specific medical programmes.
  • You will be a witness to the situations you encounter on the ground.
  • You will develop skills and take on long-term responsibility.
  • You are joining a well-known international association, with a specific approach to humanitarian aid.

MSF continuously recruits medical and non-medical personnel. The staff brings forth professional competencies, practical experience as well as commitment and a true preoccupation for patients.

Who do we recruit?

We work with international personnel, but also with national personnel, recruited locally.

Our expatriate staff is experimented personnel, with skills obtained by solid training and a relevant professional background.

We recruit mainly:

  • Medical staff: medical doctors, emergency doctors, specialist doctors (surgeons, anaesthetists, paediatricians, obstetrician/gynaecologists, psychiatrists), HIV/TB/Hep C/NCD doctors
  • Paramedical staff: nurses (generalists, emergency, neonatology, infection prevention and control, OT), midwifes, clinical psychologists, hospital pharmacists, epidemiologists, health promoters, laboratory technicians
  • Non medical staff: general logisticians, specialist logisticians (supply chain, construction, electricity, mechanic, water hygiene and sanitation), administrators, specialist administrators in Finance or Human Resources, communication officers

Recruitment criteria

Our main criteria are 2 years relevant professional experience (internships not included).

For medical doctors, 3 years post diploma are required (or final specialisation for specialised MDs such as anaesthetists, gynaecologists, etc).

For nurses, a diploma in Tropical Medicine is required or a professional experience in a similar context (2 to 3 months). This diploma is also recommended for medical doctors, midwifes and laboratory technicians.

Language skills are a strong asset. French is a a strong asset.

Recruitment process

The recruitment process consists of the following stages:

  1. Information session (in Geneva or Zürich)
  2. Submission of application online (CV, letter of motivation and application form)
  3. Interview + technical tests for non-medical staff
  4. Training and preparation for first field mission
  5. Posting

Successful candidates, who have been recruited, will then follow an Integration Course, which aims at preparing the expatriate to his first field departure.
